FAQ

Q: What are the dates of the program?

A: The 2019 Climate Guides Mentorship Program runs June 1st to July 31st 2019.

The launch Summit will take place on June 1st for the full day. Workshops for mentees are held on Thursday evenings of June 20th and July 11th, 2019. The final Showcase is hosted for the public on July 31st, 2019.

Q: What are the criteria for me to apply?

A: To apply as a mentee, you must be between the ages of 18 and 30 on June 1st 2019 and must be able to meet the time and location expectations of the program. To apply as a mentor, you must have experience or expertise in one (or more!) of the following areas: nature, food, justice, energy, or cities. All participants must be able to attend the Summit (June 1st) and the final Showcase (evening of July 31st). Mentees must also be able to attend both workshops.

Q: How is the program delivered?

A: The program is delivered in-person in Vancouver, BC. Mentee teams are free to determine how they will work together (whether it is primarily virtually or in-person) but are strongly encouraged to incorporate in-person meetings into their project plan. Mentorship meetings are also flexible, and can occur digitally or in-person. Participants are suggested to be located in the Greater Vancouver Area for the duration of the 2019 Mentorship program from June 1st to July 31st, 2019.

Q: How much time commitment will this be?

A:  Mentees are expected to commit approximately 3-4 hours a week for the two months of the program. Mentors are asked to provide approximately one hour a week over the course of the two-month program. All participants commit to a full day on June 1st and an evening on July 31st, 2019, while mentees are expected to also attend two evening workshops on June 20th and July 11th, 2019.

Q: What type of project will my team create?

A:  Mentees will co-create projects that address climate change within one of the following areas: nature, food, justice, energy, and cities. The action project is expected to be implemented either during the program or sometime within the following 6-month period.

Q: Does this cost anything?

A:  The Climate Guides Mentorship Program is entirely free! Mentees even have access to up to $1,500 of seed funding through the support of Taking IT Global #RisingYouth grants, who have partnered with Climate Guides for this program.
