3 Mentorship Programs in Vancouver
Vancouver has been the launchpad for stellar mentorship programs. Take it from Anitra Paris. Over the past couple years, she has worked for and joined three mentorship programs based in Vancouver. Each have the unique vision to empower the next generation with intergenerational support.
Find out more about these three programs: empowering women outdoors, women in climate and youth in climate. (Hint: we’re one of them!)
This program is all about building a community of likeminded outdoorswomen through the creation of empowering female mentorships. Mountain Mentors is an alpine mentorship program for self-identified women in Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor. Their one-on-one partnerships build skills in backcountry skiing, snowboard, and climbing.
Since its founding, Anitra has been a member of the staff team, working as their Social Media Coordinator. Follo You can follow along at @mountainmentors on all socials.
2. Women4Climate Mentorship Programme
This year, the City of Vancouver launched their first cohort of the Women4Climate Mentorship Programme. The C40 Cities matches mayors, city officials, and committed leaders from the business sector, international organizations and civil society with emerging women leaders. Mentors support mentees in sharing their experience and developing projects in their field.
Anitra is one of the mentees of Vancouver’s Women4Climate program. She is working on removing barriers to adoption of electric heat pumps for heating and hot water. Her mentor, Robyn Wark, works for BC Hydro in the Sustainable Community program. Perfect match!
3. Climate Guides Mentorship Program
Third, us! Our mentorship program is run by youth, for youth to empower climate leaders. This program equips our generation with mentorship, skills, networks, seed funding, and opportunities to engage in climate action. Mentees and mentors are grouped in themes: nature, food, justice, energy, and cities. Together, we’re shifting the doom-and-gloom narrative to one of hope and opportunity in tackling climate change!
Finally, Anitra was a mentee in our first cohort and piloted a reusable mug share program with the mentorship of Alison Carr, Co-Founder of the zero-waste grocery store Nada. Now, she’s spreading the word for our second mentorship cohort!
Applications for our second cohort are due April 22nd. APPLY HERE.
The cohort will be a 2-month accelerator from June 1st to July 31st. Join us!
